Temporomandibular joint ankylosis is an important entity that dentists and maxillofacial surgeons should know about. It clinically manifests through a permanent limitation of mandibular movements coupled with mouth opening inferior to 3 cm. This serious pathology can have serious functional repercussions, such as mastication problems, speech troubles, eating disorders, and jaw growth hindrance, in addition to the psychological difficulties in coping with such a condition in daily life. Herein, we present a radiological and chronological illustration of the evolution of temporomandibular joint ankylosis following an overlooked traumatic fracture of the mandibular condyle. The present case report involves an 8-year-old patient referred for a gradually evolving mouth opening limitation following a car accident. Tomodensitometry was helpful as it revealed an osseous block between the left temporomandibular joint surfaces, showing an ankylosis. Posttraumatic cerebral computed tomogr
VisiterThis study used CBCT to examine the greater palatine foramen in Tunisian patients, aiming to provide crucial anatomical information for administering greater palatine nerve block anesthesia and identifying appropriate locations for harvesting palatal donor tissue. A total of 63 CBCT scans were conducted on Tunisian patients. All patients had fully erupted first, second, and third molars, leading to the examination of 100 greater palatine foramina (GPF). The evaluation of the GPFs encompassed their positioning, Antero-posterior (AP) and latero-medial (LM) diameters, as well as their distances from both the midline maxillary suture (MMS) and the alveolar ridge top (ART). The measurements were conducted using the distance measuring tool of Romexis® viewer software. The IBM® SPSS® version 20.0 statistical package was used to carry out all statistical analyses. The study included 100 CBCTs, with participants consisting of 37 males (58.73%) and 26 females (41.27%), having an average age of 3
VisiterMandibulo-acral dysplasia was first described by Young et al in 1971. It is a rare, autosomal genetic disorder describing characteristic general, craniofacial, and oral manifestations. However, the detailed characteristics of this multisystemic disease have not yet been clar- ified due to its rarity and the limited number of cases described. Through a clinical case, we have tried to expose some of the most common clinical and radiological signs especially in their bucco-facial location, some modalities of management and the importance of an early diagnosis which turns out to be a real challenge especially for dentists in their daily practice. © 2024TheAuthors. VisiterOral trauma is common in both children and adults. Different clinical forms are encountered, requiring the clinician to make a correct diagnosis and provide rapid and effective treatment to preserve the vital and/or functional prognosis of the tooth. In the case of a coronal fracture, the bonding of the tooth fragment is a therapeutic procedure that is particularly advantageous from an aesthetic point of view, ensuring better preservation of the tooth’s physical and chemical characteristics. This technique is simple and economic. It can be a replacement for the timeconsuming procedures of conventional corono-radicular reconstruction. The main aim is to restore function and aesthetics, while retaining the original morphology, color and texture. Using a clinical case study, this paper illustrates the steps involved in the corono-radicular restoration of a fractured tooth by fragment bonding, and discusses the factors that play a role in the therapeutic decision, highlighting
VisiterObjective The aim of this study was to assess the color stability of two microhybrid composite resins after immersion in different coloring solutions for 4 weeks. Materials and Methods Sixty disc-shaped samples (2mm in thickness and 10mm in diameter) were prepared according to ISO standard 4049. Two composite resins were used: Filtek Z350 XT (3M ESPE) and Harvard Restore (Harvard Dental International GmbH). After initial color measurements, five samples of each resin were immersed in artificial saliva, Turkish coffee, lemonade, black tea, Coca-Cola 0%, and green tea for 4 weeks. The spectrophotometric measurements were carried out after 24 hours of immersion in the various solutions and then weekly, using a VITA Easyshade Advance 4.0 spectrophotometer (CIE Lab system). Statistical analysis was carried out with SPSS 25.0 software. Results The two composite resins tested revealed discoloration after immersion in all the drinks at a variable immersion period showing differe
VisiterIntroduction : The flipped classroom is a pedagogical approach in which the theoretical part of the course is exported outside the classroom, while class time is rather devoted to do the applications in the presence of a teacher to tutor the students. The objective of this article was to explore the perceptions and satisfaction of dental students in relation to their first experience of a newly applied inverted classroom at the Faculty of Dentistry of Monastir. Methodology: a descriptive cross sectional study carried out among students in the 3rd year of dental medicine at the Faculty of Dentistry of Monastir for the year 2022-2023. The measuring instrument was a questionnaire specially developed for this study. Results: 81 students participated in this study, among them 69 students were satisfied with this new pedagogical approach. (96.28%) of students agreed that their motivation was increased for attendance at the lecture hall following this experience and 93.82% would li
